Inspiring others
The other day, I was gassing up my van, and I ran into a friend of mine. We chit-chatted for a little while and she asked me what have I been up to lately. Of course, I told her about my blog, and she seemed excited and opened up her phone and then immediately broke down crying and screaming. I was shocked trying to ask what was wrong. Before I could ask her, her sister came out and yelled at me telling me to leave instantly. I kept mumbling trying to ask what was wrong, but was demanded to leave repeatedly, so I left.
I then drove to my waterfall spot and cried and cried, wondering what I did wrong. I sat in my van still crying, thinking that I hurt her because I told her I help people who have been through sexual abuse. Later, I heard that she too was a survivor and I wanted to build a rapport with her to help her out.
To be honest, I was scared and almost removed my blog, thinking the pain was too much to bear for her and that I hurt her deeply by bringing up the abuse. Well 2 days later, I went back to the gas station, because she works there, and I talked to her apologizing profusely. She stopped me and gave me a huge hug, congratulating me on my blog. I was still a little shaken up, not sure what to think. She then told me that when I was there 2 days ago, she opened her phone and found out her favorite uncle passed away and they were very close.
So I consoled her and apologized for her loss, and we both cried and hugged each other. She told me later that she did look at my blog and it inspired her to know that I was helping people overcome their abusive situations. She said she was very proud of me and I inspired her to seek help in overcoming her demons.
Trust me I understand it is difficult to communicate with those who have suffered immensely, but even offering one kind word of hope can make a difference.
Talking about sexual assault and abuse is not easy to do, I know I have talked to several people about it. It does bring back memories and is exhausting putting together a game plan to help others.
I realize that part of inspiration is leading by example. I see all those quotes and sayings about confidence, etc. Overall, I feel INSPIRATION is about helping those who are emotionally challenged and letting them know they are not alone.
Prayer,
Mandie
